Jersey Boys – UK Tour
The internationally renowned production JERSEY BOYS is back for a second UK Tour in 2018 owing to the success of the West End and International smash hit that the show has become.
Based on the music and story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and told from each character’s separate angle, it includes all the hits that you know and love. Who doesn’t like The Four Seasons? Big Girls Don’t Cry, Walk Like a Man, Oh What A Night, Bye Bye Baby and Can’t Take My Eyes Off You are some of the many incredible songs that underscore this production – so it’s not hard to see why it’s receiving rave reviews.
The script is a clever, interwoven tale of the story of the four seasons from all four perspectives. From where they started to the arrests, the debts and their own individual sacrifices to become and maintain that group. It’s interesting, thought provoking and damn entertaining as the group unleash hit after hit – some in performance style as the group and others as part of the dialogue to move the story along.
A cool, rustic set gives way for some clever scene changes. It’s simple, but scene changes are slick and it all works extremely well. The iconic costumes work extremely well as a contrast to the space too.
There were some cast changes on our particular performance which led to some understudies stepping up, but it has to be said that it wasn’t noticeable. The whole cast were outstanding with no weak link – despite the changes.
For the group themselves – James Winter stepped into the role of Bob Gaudio and Karl James Wilson was up for Nick Massi. They completed the Four Seasons with Frankie and Tommy.
Tommy Devito was played strongly by Simon Bailey – he really gets this character and is great to watch. Although of all the quality on stage there was still a show stealing performance in the role of Frankie Valli, Michael Watson is outstanding throughout. His voice is exceptional, his range is impressive and it’s an ideal casting.
There’s only a few ladies in this cast – but they smash it too. The choreography is very slick and they not only execute it perfectly but do so with 110% effort and class. Tara Young, Amy Thiroff, Phoebe May Newman and Olive Robinson absolutely delivering.
As a show it has it all and is a fine production – leaving the audience on their feet by the end. You’ll leave with your toes tapping!
JERSEY BOYS plays the Regent Theatre until Saturday 17th February. You would be mad to miss it. To book tickets visit www.atgtickets.com/stoke
