New Diorama Theatre Have Just Announced Their 2017/18 Season
New Diorama Theatre are today announce their 2017/18 season. Following a year which saw NDT win The Stage’s Fringe Theatre of the Year Award 2017 and the 2016 Peter Brook Empty Space Award, this season is our best yet – full of premieres of new work from the UK’s most exciting companies.
Highlights of the season include:
Kicking Us Off
The season opens with The Pretend Men following their first multi-award-winning smash hit-show with the sequel Police Cops In Space in a double bill with Emergency Chorus, fresh from selling-out INCOMING Festival and winning awards at National Student Drama Festival with their Sunday Times Playwrighting Award-winning show Celebration.
In-House Production
New Diorama will transfer our new in-house production Secret Life of Humans back from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Inspired by the international best-seller, Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, the show will run for four weeks at New Diorama before transferring to Greenwich Theatre. The production is written and directed by New Diorama Artistic & Executive Producer David Byrne, and co-directed with Kate Stanley.
Brand New Supported Shows
Our new season features many brand new shows from some of the UK’s most exciting theatre companies. Multi-award-winning Kandinsky return with a new show Trap Street, directed by Complicite Associate James Yeatman, focusing on urban planning and the dreams behind inner-city council estates. Last season Kandinsky’s work sold out so quickly that we’re also bringing their hit show Still Ill back for a limited two week run.
Following hit shows The Beanfield and Tank, total theatre award-winners Breach Theatre are delving into the world of emergency preparedness scenarios with the The Drill, co-commissioned with New Diorama, BAC, Bike Shed and HOME.
Lost Watch return to New Diorama with a new social work inspired show Left My Desk, which premieres at NDT in May, 2018. This season will also see Lost Watch joining New Diorama as one of our four NDT Associate Ensembles.
ND2
As a special addition this season, New Diorama will be hosting several large scale events and productions in ND2, our new rehearsal and development space – located just next door to the theatre at Regent’s Place.
The first ND2 production will be a brand new production of Mike Bartlett’s Contractions, presented by Deafinitely Theatre, in co-production with New Diorama. Performed in the shadows of a deserted trading floor, this new production will be Deafinitely Theatre’s first site specific piece.
The second will be an immersive show presented by Gruff Theatre, most recently seen presenting Caryl Churchill’s The Striker as part of the Styx 90’s season. It Made Me Consider Me will focus on history, memory and forgetting.
Transfers
Throughout the season we’re transferring some of the most successful productions of the last year to New Diorama.
Straight from its Off-Broadway success, Bucket Club’s Fossils will run at NDT for two weeks this Autumn. Having sold-out and won prizes at Vault Festival, Smoke and Oakum’s brilliant Kings transfers to NDT for a three week run.
Thirty Christmases will run throughout December, transferring from the Oxford Fire Station where it successfully ran throughout Christmas 2016. Written by Jonny Donahoe (Every Brilliant Thing) and with songs from Jonny and the Baptists, the show stars Jonny himself, Paddy Gervers and Chortle Award nominee Rachel Parris.
Barrel Organ’s Lulu Raczka & Ali Pidsley’s production A Girl in a School Uniform (Walks into a Bar) receives its London premiere at NDT, in co-production with West Yorkshire Playhouse.
And One Last Thing…
New Diorama has a strong commitment and reputation for access. We will be hosting a record number of captioned and relaxed performances across our 2017/18 season – ensuring this collection of exciting and unmissable work from the UK’s most exciting theatre makers is accessible for everyone.
