Pleasance Kids Programme Is Bursting With Music, Magic, Fairy Tales…And Pants!

Providing children from the earliest age with access to high quality children’s theatre while offering a dedicated space for under 10s and their families to relax is the mission of the Pleasance Kidzone. Started in 2009 at the Pleasance Courtyard as a way of supporting the children’s theatre programme, the Kidzone has led to an explosion in children’s activities at the Pleasance over the last nine years.

Olivier Award-winning improvisers The Showstoppers return with the Showstoppers’ Kids Show, catchy tunes and bright characters take you on a journey in Animalphabet the Musical, and there’s a new band in town in Small Laces.

Hold on to your pants with Nutty Noah‘s explosive mix of music, magic and madness in Nutty Noah – Wear Your Pants with Pride; make Phizz-whizzing potions with Roald Dahl’s doctor, Professor Tom Solomon in Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Medicine; reach for the stars with Mavis Sparkle and her cleaning trolley packed full of secrets and surprises, and go bonkers as The Lisities Make you LOL with exploding alien attacks and disgusting underpants! Travel backwards and forwards in time in Future Perfect; journey through space with The Star Seekers and join the Bee Party in Me and My Bee, where multi award-winning theatre company ThisEgg invites you to save the world – one bee at a time.

Familiar stories are transformed from page to stage, with Tall Stories’ The Gruffalo’s Child together with new adaptations of Ella EnchantedThe Little Princeand the PilotThe Giant Jam Sandwich and Les Petits Theatre Company’s production of David Walliams’ First Hippo on the Moon.

Pleasance Kids is also back at the EICC with The Polar Bears Go Up, a fun and imaginative show for under 5s about two polar bears on a race up to space.

When you’ve seen your shows and need a break, then come and visit the Pleasance Kidzone. In its ninth year, it is still the only completely dedicated child-friendly venue on the Fringe – complete with pram shelters and a nappy change! Located on The Green, in the heart of the Courtyard, the Kidzone is home to our famous giant inflatable igloo theatre and weatherproof art-pods. Here, come rain or shine, you can relax under the tree and grab some food from the Cafe on The Green whilst the kids join Super Sue, Will and our team of enthusiastic young volunteers – sticking, cutting, drawing, painting and making great affordable stuff that you will want to take home with you!  If that’s not enough, there’s face-painting, visits from Pleasance Performers, and ad hoc storytelling sessions.  Pleasance Kidzone is the one-stop shop for all things family friendly on the Fringe!

Pleasance Kids is part of Pleasance Futures, the development arm of The Pleasance Theatre Trust.  The Pleasance’s enduring mission is to provide a launch pad for the very best emerging talent and the brightest of new ideas. Every year The Pleasance Theatre Trust provides over £130,000 of direct financial support to up and coming talent both on and off stage through a number of Pleasance Futures projects.

Pleasance has a great offer for nurseries, holiday clubs and schools. There’s a 10% offer on all groups of 10+ and we’re giving a FREE teacher/accompanying adult ticket for every 5 tickets booked. To book, please call 0131 556 6550.

For bookings of 20 or more, many of the Pleasance shows are offering a meet and greet after the show in the Kidzone on The Green together with a free show-related arts and crafts activity. For further details, and to book, please email
