Jonathan Wilkes, a favourite among Stoke audiences, will lead the cast as Dick Whittington. This year marks a significant milestone for Wilkes as he celebrates 20 years since his first pantomime at the Regent Theatre. Joining him on stage will be Christian Patterson, returning to play Sarah the Cook, and Kai Owen, who will take on the role of King Rat.

Christian Patterson, making his first return to the Regent Theatre since 2021, is known for his extensive stage credits including performances in “The Woman in Black,” “Journey’s End,” and “Oliver!.” Trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Patterson’s stage presence has been a staple of Stoke’s pantomime tradition for years. Expressing his excitement, Patterson said, “I’m so excited to be back at the Regent Theatre this year in panto! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I love Stoke, I love its people, I love the Regent, I love Jonny and Kai and I love pantomime! I cannot wait to be back on that stage making the ever-fantastic audiences grin from ear to ear.”

Kai Owen, best known for his role as Rhys in the series “Torchwood” and appearances in Channel 4’s “Hollyoaks,” is another familiar face to Stoke-on-Trent audiences. Owen’s portrayal of King Rat is expected to bring his usual blend of mischief and comedy to the stage. Owen expressed his enthusiasm by saying, “Absolutely chuffed to bits that ‘The Dream Team’ are well and truly back together! It’s such a privilege to be working alongside the best in the business with Jonny and Christian! I can’t wait, it’s going to be one sensational show!”

Dick Whittington promises to deliver all the traditional pantomime elements that Stoke audiences have come to expect. With special effects, stunning sets, and beautiful costumes sourced directly from The London Palladium, the production aims to take audiences on a magical adventure. The story follows the hero, Dick Whittington, and his trusty cat as they seek fame, fortune, and happiness on their journey to becoming Lord Mayor. Along the way, they must outwit the evil King Rat and his team of revolting rodents.

For a family-friendly festive outing full of laughter, music, and magic, the Regent Theatre’s Dick Whittington looks set to be a highlight of the holiday season.
