Theatre Royal Stratford East Partners With New Musical Development Collective

Theatre Royal Stratford East have recently announced that they have a one year partnership with New Musical Development Collective. The NMDC is a brand new company that has a main focus of the development of British musicals, writers and artists.

There are plenty of goals with this project that hopes to bring in a diversity of people together to nurture different kinds of talents such as composing, theatre writing, song writing amongst other professions within the industry. A goal is to bring together different cultures, economical backgrounds, disabilities and LGBT communities to flourish in the world of theatre. This will show the birth of new and promising musicals that will eventually cover the whole of the UK.

The NMDC will launch their Musical Theatre Lab on 7th March which will remain at the Theatre Royal Stratford East until 9th March 2018. On the last day of the Musical Theatre Lab there will be a public sharing of the work created within this organisation. There will also be two EMERGE concerts where there will be new and upcoming acts and talent showcasing their work

Musical Theatre Lab writers will receive benefits to build upon their upcoming goals; there’s £1,000 stipend along with the year long development that involves industry masterclasses and workshops to build upon current skills. There will also be free tickets to for productions at Theatre Royal Stratford East with access to hot seats and rehearsal rooms. There’s also 12 month membership with Mercury Musical Developments.

Kerry Michael, the Artistic Director at Theatre Royal Stratford East said: “We are excited to support and mentor the New Musical Development Collective with our shared vision to break new ground with British musicals. As an organisation that has always had musical theatre development as one its cores, we are excited to share our knowledge and expertise with the NMDC as they respond with us to the rallying call for new British musicals.”
