West End PREVIEW: Carousel

For the first time on the West End, Alfie Boe and Katherine Jenkins star together in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical Carousel at the London Coliseum.

This semi-staged revival is the third production in the partnership between the English National Opera and the GradeLinnit Company.

Charming carousel barker Billy Bigelow (Alfie Boe) and Julie Jordan (Katherine Jenkins) are just beginning their lives together when things come to an unexpectedly tragic end. Fifteen years after getting in over his head with an armed robbery and taking his own life Billy Bigelow has been given a chance to return to his family and atone. On his return he discovers his daughter Louise has grown into a troubled teenager dogged by her father’s troubled legacy. Billy promises to make amends and redeem himself and his family in the process.

Accompanied by ENO’s award winning forty piece orchestra and chorus and featuring well-loved classics such as “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, “If I Loved You”, “Mister Snow”, and “June is Bustin Out All Over”, Carousel is sure to leave you smiling.

Lonny Price will direct the strictly limited run of 41 performances at ENO’s London Coliseum.  Beginning on 7 April 2017, with press night on 11 April 2017 at 7pm, the final performance in this strictly limited five week run takes place on 13 May 2017. Further casting will be announced shortly.

We will be reviewing this as soon as possible.
